How She Really Does It: Secrets of Successful Stay-At-Work Moms, Wendy Sachs

I don't know if I love this book because it is an incredibly honest assessment of the dilemma both working and stay-at-home moms face or if it's because the book has so many great stories and interviews with women like Vera Wang, Bobbi Brown and Ann Curry that helps you realize these bigger-than-life successes are "girlfriends" just like us. This is a must read for all moms - whether you work or stay at home.

The Traveler's Gift, Andy Andrews

One of the most profound books I've ever read, The Traveler's Gift is a modern-day parable of one man's choices - and the attitudes that make the difference between success and failure. This is a MUST read for everyone, but of particular value to those who face burnout.

Smart Women Finish Rich, David Bach

Smart Women.jpg

Recommended to me by my Merrill Lynch financial advisor, Carol Meyer, this is a terrific "how to" book that offers smart, practical suggestions for getting a handle on your finances. You won't be intimidated by the writing style at all - it's very plain-spoken; a must read for women of any age.

If You Want To Walk On Water, You've Got To Get Out Of The Boat, John Ortberg

I love everything about this book, including the title! John Ortberg tells it like it is: nothing, I mean nothing, is going to happen until YOU take the first step. It's a must-read and one of my most favorite books in my library.

Eat Right 4 Your Type, Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo

eatright.jpg
Providing just enough of the science background to legitimize the philosophy, Eat Right 4 Your Type provides a practical guide to the foods that work as fuel for you and foods that you should avoid - according to your blood type. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to boost their energy while shedding a few pounds.

French Women Don't Get Fat, Mireille Guiliano

The single, most logical "diet book" I've ever read. Read it. Follow her recommendations. You'll look better and feel better - I don't see how it cannot work for every woman. Mireille is also the CEO of the wine company Clicquot and has been called a champion of women in Professional Development.

Regardless of what season your marriage is in - this is a must read.

How Full Is Your Bucket? Tom Rath and Donald Clifton

How Full Is Your Bucket? is a little book (about 100 pages) about positive reinforcement. It's a great book for us all as it reminds us of the power of recognition and appreciation using the metaphor of bucket filling - positive words and deeds, and bucket dipping - when your negativity towards others drains their buckets, as well as your own. The book is a good Professional Development and self-improvement read, but I recommend it to you because it's also a FANTASTIC book for parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. If you have the responsibility of or the opportunity to influence a child, regardless of age, I highly recommend you and your family read this book and learn to fill the buckets of the children in your life.

First, Break All the Rules, Marcus Buckingham & Curt Coffman

FirstBreak.jpg

The result of interviews with over 80,000 managers and 400 companies conducted by the Gallup group, this book challenges everything we were ever taught about managing and motivating people. It is the single best Professional Development book I've ever read. The recommendations work; as a result of reading the book, our organization reorganized and saw an immediate improvement in productivity, morale and quality of work.
